TONY ELUMELU SET ON THE PATH TO BECOME TOP 5 RICHEST (WEALTHIEST) NIGERIAN IN THE NEXT 5 OR MORE YEARS. HIS STAGGERING INVESTMENT PORTFOLIO DISSECTED!

Its about the subject matter if the article
Mr, Tony Elumelu, the billionaire Chairman and founder of Heirs Holdings

All things being equal, if time and benevolence permits and the growth of his massie investment portfolio that spans the- Health and Hospitality sector, the Oil and Gas sector, Banking and Finance, Power and Real Estate and maybe Philanthropy/Charity all of these through his ‘Heirs Holdings’ brand continues to blossom and grow as steadily and consistently as its growing now, then there’s the very likelihood that the man who currently is already a billionaire rated in Dollars and the brain behind the hybrid brand, whose tentacles is still spreading steadily and consistently to grab more lucrative pie in an economy that’s fantastically ripe for the taking, then without a doubt whatsoever, he would most definitely emerge as a top 5 wealthiest Nigerian across the globe sometime soon and maybe, depending again on his avowed dexterity something he is well acknowledged for, he could one day become the numero uno in Nigeria!

As we speak now, the man-‘Tony Onyemaechi Elumelu’ who less than 3 decades and 5 years ago (he would be 58 year old on March 22, 2021- DOB is March 22, 1963) was just rising quietly on the cusp, but with the full intent on climbing the ladder of success, is presently worth not less than at least $1billion dollars and that’s without a doubt. From the look of it, he might have ran pass his former Chairman then who was filthy rich and left him to be grabbing straws now! It was Tony Elumelu who in 2005 as the MD of the then STB- ‘Standard Trust Bank’, which was incorporated in 1990 that led drive for the acquisition of UBA, that was founded in 1949 making it one of the oldest financial institutions in Nigeria.

With the above valuation already making him as it were, one of Nigeria’s ‘wealthiest people’ already without a doubt. He is one man that can like to act modest like yes he is rich pretty okay, but not that ‘badass filthy rich’ or better still not that ‘mind-blowingly wealthy’, but we can tell you ‘categorically’ and without mincing words that he sits up there amongst the undoubted men and (woman)-[Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija of Famfa Oil] of colossal timbre and caliber. We speak with unreserved admiration about the team of ‘exceptionally blessed colossi’, which also includes another top Banker, in the person of Mr. Jim Ovia, the Chairman of Zenith Bank and probably the single highest shareholder of the bank considered as top 3 in Nigeria.

To try to break it down a bit more, let’s try to dissect some of his humongous investments, held through the family holding company ‘Heirs Holdings’, where his amiable and highly cerebral wife, Dr. Awele Vivien Elumelu is also a director. The private jet loving (we hear that UBA may have 2 of such) corporate juggernaut and international businessman and award-winning philanthropist (with his incomparable Tony Elumelu Foundation) is undoubtedly a colossus.

Heirs Holdings are probably one of the largest shareholders in UBA Plc, which is one of the top 5 biggest banks in Nigeria and by extension Africa. UBA is actually one of the few, very successful and very profitable Pan-African banking institutions bar none. UBA has in its employ at least 25000 employees. They are in at least 20 African countries and with subsidiaries in London, UK, Paris, France and New York, USA. They also serve 9 million and still growing customers. This is long way from the days of the Standard Trust Bank of then.

Their investments in the Banking and Financial sector is not limited to just UBA plc though, as they are also the owners of-

*African Prudential Plc, the only listed share registration services company in Nigeria. It was the brand that in 2013 acquired the popular UAC registrars.

*Heirs Insurance Brokers, a brand involved in brokerage and risk management services.

*United Capital Plc, a listed financial and investment services group.

*NASD OTC MARKET, the 1st alternative trading platform licensed by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Another massive investment is in the hospitality industry and Real Estate sector, where Heirs Holdings control a large shareholding in Transcorp, a massive conglomerate on its own, who are the owners of probably Nigeria’s biggest and award winning hotel amongst the several investments they control. The same Transcorp Hotels Limited controls the ‘Transcorp Hilton Abuja’, the humongous Hotel with 670 rooms and also the exquisite 146 rooms ‘Transcorp Metropolitan Hotel Calabar, Cross Rivers State’. And there are more investments in the offing, the likes of a luxury hotel Trascorp Hotel upcoming in Ikoyi, Lagos and some residential projects in Abuja also. Heirs Holdings are also the owners of Afriland Properties Plc a real estate company that offers property management investment and development services across Africa. Afriland Properties Plc has a portfolio size of N10billion and is reputed to be one of the largest ‘land banks’ in the country.

In the POWER sector Heirs Holdings also has investments in at least 6 African Countries-Nigeria Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Tanzania and Ethiopia. With Transcorp Power Limited as the operators of the Ughelli Power Plant. Transcorp Power Limited as at November of 2020 acquired for $300m dollars both Afam Power Plc and Afam Three Fast Power Limited. Transcorp is also the supplier of electricity to our neighbouring Republic of Benin.

In the Heathcare sector, Heirs Holdings is also very prominent with both Avon HMO and Avon MEDICAL, where Dr. Mrs A .V Elumelu, a medical doctor by training and profession is fully in charge of their investments in this sector.

OIL & GAS Sector.
Heirs Holdings operates via Transcorp Energy Limited the owners of OML 281, Tenoil Petroleum and Energy Services operators of OPL2008 and they are co-investors with Seadrill Nigeria in a joint venture with the world leading offshore water drilling companies and servicing oil producers in the West African sub region. In fact Heirs Holdings quite recently again just acquired 45% of OML 17 from Shell, Total & ENI with a financial component of a staggering $1.1 billion dollars.

With all these lucrative investments bringing in the fruits in torrents all around and still not resting on his oars, the world recognised and award-winning businessman is surely on the path towards becoming the first amongst equals, becoming the numero uno! The boss of all bosses, the godfather of them all sometime soon.
