OBA LAMIDI ADEYEMI III THE ALAAFIN OF OYO JOINS HIS ANCESTORS AFTER 52 YEARS ON THE THRONE

Iku Baba Yeye, the living Sango himself,   is Royal Majesty, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, the Alaafin of Oyo has joined his ancestors after a reign of 5 decades and 2 years on the throne. Bringing a cloud of gloom on the old Oyo empire which makes up the whole of the present Yorubaland!

The very colourful (in very many ways) royal father, was the longest ever reigning monarch to have occupied the highly esteemed stool of the Alaafin (the palace owner), which is (arguably) the highest royal stool in Yorubaland, maybe after that of the Ooni of Ife (the source).

The late indefatigable Oba Adeyemi Alaafin, like a lot love to refer to him, ascended the throne of his forebears in 1970, November 18 of the year to be more precise, just a few weeks after clocking the age of 31 on October 15 (D.O.B was October 15, 1938).

The then ‘Prince Olayiwola Lamidi Atanda Adeyemi’ was from the Alowolodu ruling house of Oyo before becoming the royal father. He was a known boxing enthusiast.

He passed on, on Friday, April 22, 22 at the age of 83 at the ‘Afe Babalolah. University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti’. Ekiti State after a brief illness.

The outspoken Kabiyesi was a lover of very many, young, lightskinned beautiful ladies, many of which he had in his ever changing and quite colourful harem.

He would be dearly missed by them all!

The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde after getting the report of the king’s demise from the highest ranking Chief of the Oyo Mesi, is expected to make an official announcement of the sad passage of the colossus.

While being an exponent of traditional religion, with him even referred to as “the living Sango”, he was also a Moslem.
