Vociferous activist and former controversial billionaire businessman Dumebi Kachikwu wins ADC's Presidential ticket. He would be one of tje youngest vying for the post at the next election.
Dumebi Kachikwu

If things works out as he envisages, the somewhat controversial fine boy younger brother of the former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and former GMD of the NNPC who was also the President of OPEC and owner of True Tales Publications Ltd, Chief Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, in the person Dumebi Kachikwu hopes to become the President of Nigeria via his political party, ‘African Democratic Congress’ as her Presidential Candidate come 2023.

The 6 footer handsome dude, is probably one of the youngest, if not the youngest to want to contest at just about 50, if not less.

To emerge as the preferred ADC candidate, he defeated about 10 other aspirants which included a perennial contestant in the person of the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Kingsley Moghalu, who had boasted emphatically prior to this primary that he would defeat both Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, 70 of the APC and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, 75 of the PDP at the 2023 Presidential contest and even retire both.

At the Primary that was concluded on Thursday, June 9, 2022 in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, the controversial ‘billionaire’ (in Naira) businessman, won via 978 votes to that of Moghalu who got 589 votes only.

In all, over 2000 supposed delegates casted their votes to pick their preferred choice.

Dumebi Kachikwu apart from being the younger ‘equally rich’ and highly connected brother of Ibe Kachikwu, is a supposed media mogul, who owns Roots Television Nigeria.

After a lot of fiasco that he was involved in many years back, that was all over the airwaves then, likes of an accusation of fraud to the tune of N750m by a House of Representatives member, Honorable Ndudi Elumelu, the younger sibling of financial juggernaut Tony Elumelu Jnr.

Honorable Elumelu had accused the so called ‘billionaire businessman’, who had his hands in many pies of fleecing him of the staggering amount then to help in peddling influence to sway people to support his political ambition to become the Governorship flag-bearer of the PDP in Delta State and not keeping to his own side of the bargain. It was a big case then that the EFCC was involved in before the case was eventually resolved.

Another popular case that Dumebi Kachikwu was involved in then was a public spat that led to a defamation case in court concerning a Porsche Cayenne car he had bought from a popular businessman Larry Onuegbu. The defamation of character case reached a conclusion where he was found guilty and told to pay N2m to Larry Onuegbu and was also instructed to write an apology letter. The car involved was supposedly a wedding present to Naeto C, his former brother-in-law, whose elder sister was Somchi, Dumebi’s estranged 1st wife and mother of his 4 eldest children.

Somchi is the eldest daughter of Mrs. Kema Chikwe, the former Minister for Transportation, then later Aviation and later Nigerian Ambassador to Ireland. She left her troubled marriage more than a decade ago and relocated abroad. Dumebi though remarried in 2011, when he swept his 2nd wife Ikeme off her feet and they are blessed with children.

When things were quite rosy for the lover of all things luxurious, Dumebi was a collector of the best cars and his home was a statement in class and distinction.

After all the silliness of some years that got him in the news for all the wrong reasons, Mr. Kachikwu then went totally under the radar, not seen by many and not heard of, till not too long ago again. He has since become a vociferous activist speaking against corruption and more.

The very ambitious young man in his late 40s early 50s, who believes he has the resources, wherewithal and more to make the required changes that would catapult Nigeria’s economy and place her where she should be, would be vying for the post of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come 2023 against the likes of APC’s Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, PDP’s Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, PRP’s Kola Abiola, AAC’s Sowore Omoyele and many others.
